In October 2006, we installed the first GL-105 battery in S/V Genasun. One lead-acid battery was retained for rules (200Ah) compliance, but the GL-105 alone provided all energy storage needed for almost 1000 miles of cruising and racing. The weight savings from the battery helped propel Alex to his impressive finish in the 2006 Mini Barcelona, a 300 mile solo race. The battery functioned flawlessly, even through Alex's unfortunate 360 degree rollover and dismasting while returning to France.
Genasun equipped 8 boats with lithium batteries in the 2007 Mini Transat, nearly 10% of the fleet. During the season, these boats racked up more than 50,000 demanding offshore miles, all running on lithium. Several of our customers finished in the top 10, and one appears to have set a new 24-hour record for the Mini class: 295 miles!
